Miss Heather's Halloween Costume!

Miss Mel and I have always been a fan of making our own costumes, rather than buying a pre-made one, when it comes to Halloween. It takes all the creativity out of it! This year Miss Mel is being a lady Iron Man and I am being Sally the rag doll from The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of my all time favorite movies!!). Here's how I made my costume!

Supplies:
Black dress
Fabric scraps of different colors
Black Sharpie
Fabric glue
Black yarn
Thick needle
Scissors
Fishnet tights
Thick white socks *optional*
Brown ankle boots *optional*

Step One:
I bought plain fabric and drew the designs onto my fabric with a thick point Sharpie.

Step Two:
I had a picture of Sally to loosely follow when cutting the fabric for the costume.
So I cut the fabric to look very similar to the picture and made up my own pattern for the back.

Step Three:
I glued the patches of fabric onto the black dress.

Step Four:
With the thick needle, I ran the black yarn along all fabric edges to give it a loose stitch work appearance.

Step Five:
Since I had some extra fabric left over, I sewed it up and used it for a headband!
*headbands are the BEST when dancing around and wanting your hair to be out of your face!*

Step Six:
Once I put the fishnet tights on my body, I ran yarn through the holes to give the "stitched look" on my legs. To add to the rag doll experience, I also ripped some of the netting.

Step Seven:
I found a black body pencil and drew the stitches all over my arms, chest and face. With eyeliner, I drew large circles around my eyes and put a thick amount of mascara on.
To quote Miss Mel, "you need to look dead!"

We had so much fun making our costumes! We're already brainstorming what we're going to be next year! What are/were you guys? We'd love to see!

What are you being this Halloween?

Halloween is one of Miss Heather and I's favorite holidays. We seriously spend months talking about possible costume ideas...I think this year we started brainstorming in August.
Granted, we always change our minds 1,000 times but we come up with some great stuff!

Therefore, I wanted to share a couple of costumes I've found on Pinterest that are super creative and could be perfect for all those people who are just now figuring out their costumes! *slackers!*

"50 Shades of Grey"
Haha! DIY: 50 Shades of Grey Costume Literally, 50 shades of grey!
Literally....50 shades of grey!
I thought this costumes was hilarious!
You can find directions on how to make it on Lauren Conrad's site.

Victoria's Secret
HAHA! Victoria's Secret Halloween Costume
This is genius!
Although there are no directions (that I could find) on how to create this costume yourself, I think it would be pretty simple to recreate. Grab a cardboard box, pink and white paint, glitter pens, ribbon and some tissue paper!

Starbucks
royal babes?!
I seriously love this SO much.
(I have an addiction to Starbucks and this little kid is too cute!)
No directions on how to make this one either but I assume it's all felt for the cup and foam. Grab a headband and add on some more felt for whipped cream and a straw.

Easy Mac
Halloween costumes halloween
No words.
It's just too funny!
As to make this costume, I would take a round laundry basket and either paint or print out the Easy Mac label and attach it to the basket. Then create the "mac and cheese" with toilet paper rolls and paint! Glue your mac and cheese to the laundry basket, headband and cardboard fork!

"Toddlers and Tiaras"
Toddlers and Tiaras costumes. Too funny...
I cracked up when I found this one.
You will definitely get some attention in this costume but, hey, isn't that what Halloween is all about anyways?
To create this costume, get a tutu (or make your own with tulle), white t-shirt, tiara, pacifier and create your own sash with thick ribbon and glitter pens. Don't forget to bring the attitude!

I hope these costumes give you some inspiration or at the very least, some laughs!

And if all else fails, through on your best dress and some animal ears!
"I'm a mouse, duh."

Stay tuned because next Monday and Tuesday, Miss Heather and I are sharing how we made our Halloween costumes for this year!

Toga Times!

This  past weekend, Miss Heather and Raven went to a toga party and it was basically the best thing ever. I mean but seriously I have decided that togas are awesome and wish every party I went to was a toga party. We saw some really creative designs out of nothing more than a bed sheet!

I think our favorite part of the whole costume were the accessories! Raven supplied us with some kick ass broaches and Miss Heather conveniently had temporary tattoos!

In all reality Miss Mel and Miss Heather are just suckers for a themed party. Have we mentioned that were already brainstorming for the best Halloween costume? If you want to be the best, you've got to plan ahead, right?
