Post-Halloween Interview

Miss Heather and I hope everyone had a great Halloween last night!
I stayed home and passed out candy to all the trick-or-treaters and they were so cute!
My favorite of all their costumes was a little boy dressed up as a whale! Eee!

While you're recovering from a candy-induced coma, we hope you'll check out our sponsor interview from the lovely girls behind the DIY blog, Craftbaby

Their blog is beyond awesome and they have weekly craft contests you can enter!
They've given "Miss Mel and Miss Heather" a ton of love and we hope our readers will return it by visiting their blog!

You can read our interview with Candie and Liz here

Also! Don't forget to enter their DIY: A Pumpkin contest that we're sponsoring!
They're taking entries until November 22, 2012.

Miss Heather's Halloween Costume!

Miss Mel and I have always been a fan of making our own costumes, rather than buying a pre-made one, when it comes to Halloween. It takes all the creativity out of it! This year Miss Mel is being a lady Iron Man and I am being Sally the rag doll from The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of my all time favorite movies!!). Here's how I made my costume!

Supplies:
Black dress
Fabric scraps of different colors
Black Sharpie
Fabric glue
Black yarn
Thick needle
Scissors
Fishnet tights
Thick white socks *optional*
Brown ankle boots *optional*

Step One:
I bought plain fabric and drew the designs onto my fabric with a thick point Sharpie.

Step Two:
I had a picture of Sally to loosely follow when cutting the fabric for the costume.
So I cut the fabric to look very similar to the picture and made up my own pattern for the back.

Step Three:
I glued the patches of fabric onto the black dress.

Step Four:
With the thick needle, I ran the black yarn along all fabric edges to give it a loose stitch work appearance.

Step Five:
Since I had some extra fabric left over, I sewed it up and used it for a headband!
*headbands are the BEST when dancing around and wanting your hair to be out of your face!*

Step Six:
Once I put the fishnet tights on my body, I ran yarn through the holes to give the "stitched look" on my legs. To add to the rag doll experience, I also ripped some of the netting.

Step Seven:
I found a black body pencil and drew the stitches all over my arms, chest and face. With eyeliner, I drew large circles around my eyes and put a thick amount of mascara on.
To quote Miss Mel, "you need to look dead!"

We had so much fun making our costumes! We're already brainstorming what we're going to be next year! What are/were you guys? We'd love to see!

Miss Mel's Halloween Costume!

I hope everyone had a fun pre-Halloween weekend!
I know Miss Heather and I certainly did!

This year for Halloween, I was Iron Woman!
Now, I know there technically isn't an Iron Woman but I decided to take the Iron Man costume and make my own version of the comic!
"Iron Man"

As a group, we were all "The Avengers"!

Tom was Hawk-Eye, Ochs was The Hulk, Tj was Captain America, Kaitlyn was Thor and Kim was Black Widow. Everyone worked really hard on their costumes and it paid off! We got second place in the costume contest!

Here's how to make your own "Iron Woman" costume.

I took the red and gold theme of Iron Man's suit and ran with it!

Materials:

Gold Leggings from Forever 21 for $12
Red T-shirt from Hobby Lobby for $3
Red Elbow-Length Gloves at Target for $5
Gold Headband from American Apparel for $6
2 yards of Gold Fabric from JoAnn's for $6
(I tied this fabric around my waist as a sash for a more "comic book" look)
Optional: Red Cowboy Boots!

Tom, my boyfriend who is an electrical engineer, made my Arc Reactor chest piece which he attached to my shirt using velcro. It was amazing! It's definitely the reason why we got in the top three in the costume contest! The light was blinding and I even had a switch in my glove to make it brighter!
Special thanks to Tom for making it for me! I loved it!
Unfortunately, I am not an electrical engineer and I have no way of explaining how to make your own! However, for those who need a quick alternative, I suggest using glow sticks to make a Arc Reactor.

 Two more days until Halloween!
Make sure you check out tomorrow's post to see how Miss Heather made her costume!

Happy weekend before Halloweenie!

 Funny Halloween Ecard: Witch, please.
 Haha! I love this eCard.

Are you celebrating Halloween this weekend?
Miss Heather and I are! We're headed down to Rolla, MO to KMNR's "Freaker's Ball"!
"Freaker's Ball" is a dance put on by Missouri Science and Technology (where Tom, Miss Mel's boyfriend goes) radio station, KMNR. This year they are having three bands perform and there is, of course, a costume contest! This is our second year going and we can't wait! Most of our friends will be there so it should be a blast!

Below are some links from around the web we want to share with you!

Okay, I know this is old but " Harry Potter Puppet Pals " always makes me laugh.

What are you being this Halloween?

Halloween is one of Miss Heather and I's favorite holidays. We seriously spend months talking about possible costume ideas...I think this year we started brainstorming in August.
Granted, we always change our minds 1,000 times but we come up with some great stuff!

Therefore, I wanted to share a couple of costumes I've found on Pinterest that are super creative and could be perfect for all those people who are just now figuring out their costumes! *slackers!*

"50 Shades of Grey"
Haha! DIY: 50 Shades of Grey Costume Literally, 50 shades of grey!
Literally....50 shades of grey!
I thought this costumes was hilarious!
You can find directions on how to make it on Lauren Conrad's site.

Victoria's Secret
HAHA! Victoria's Secret Halloween Costume
This is genius!
Although there are no directions (that I could find) on how to create this costume yourself, I think it would be pretty simple to recreate. Grab a cardboard box, pink and white paint, glitter pens, ribbon and some tissue paper!

Starbucks
royal babes?!
I seriously love this SO much.
(I have an addiction to Starbucks and this little kid is too cute!)
No directions on how to make this one either but I assume it's all felt for the cup and foam. Grab a headband and add on some more felt for whipped cream and a straw.

Easy Mac
Halloween costumes halloween
No words.
It's just too funny!
As to make this costume, I would take a round laundry basket and either paint or print out the Easy Mac label and attach it to the basket. Then create the "mac and cheese" with toilet paper rolls and paint! Glue your mac and cheese to the laundry basket, headband and cardboard fork!

"Toddlers and Tiaras"
Toddlers and Tiaras costumes. Too funny...
I cracked up when I found this one.
You will definitely get some attention in this costume but, hey, isn't that what Halloween is all about anyways?
To create this costume, get a tutu (or make your own with tulle), white t-shirt, tiara, pacifier and create your own sash with thick ribbon and glitter pens. Don't forget to bring the attitude!

I hope these costumes give you some inspiration or at the very least, some laughs!

And if all else fails, through on your best dress and some animal ears!
"I'm a mouse, duh."

Stay tuned because next Monday and Tuesday, Miss Heather and I are sharing how we made our Halloween costumes for this year!

DIY: Halloween Cupcake Toppers

Hey guys! Last night I made some fun Halloween inspired cupcake toppers! Here's how I did it!

Supplies:
Construction Paper
Scissors
Toothpick
Tape
Pencil/Sharpie

Step One:
Draw your objects on the paper and cut them out. I drew pumpkins and ghosts!

Step Two:
Tape your toothpicks to the back of the paper and enjoy!

Ideally I would stick them in cupcakes but I haven't actually made them yet. I want to use them for Halloween but that's too far away and my will power when cupcakes are present is quite low.

Halloween is so close and we just can't wait!!

Pumpkin Carving: Clay Style!

This week I got to carve my very own clay pumpkin! For the past few years the Clayworks Department at my school has been offering this fun activity. They make the clay pumpkin for you and all you have to do it show up and "carve" your pumpkin.

Here's me with my proud work of art!

They'll fire it some time this week or next week and then I can pick it up! I'll proudly be displaying on my porch come Halloween!

DIY: Door Decorations

Have Miss Mel and I ever mentioned that Halloween might quite possibly be one of our most favorite holidays? Well it is! I think I can speak for both of us when I say when we're so excited October is finally here! Also here's my new door decoration!!

I feel that since I made my tombstone with construction paper and crayons I haven't jinxed myself in any way, shape or form. Happy October friends! We can't wait for Halloween!
