Do or Don't: Bows

When I first think of bows all I can think of is when parents throw a bow on their babies. Other than for the cuteness value, they also do it because let's face it sometimes it's really hard to tell if a baby is a girl or boy. But I don't think bows are only for babies! Whenever I think my outfit needs a touch of"girly" I like to add a bow and I think it's complete!

Here are some of my "bow loves"

Bows and wedges? I  see nothing wrong with this picture!

Another pair of my favorites: backless dresses and bows.

This simple rhinestone bow bracelet is adorable from Windsor

I've been loving this new trend of making a bow in you hair, out of your own hair!
Here's a great tutorial so you can do it yourself!
But I also swear by American Apparel's bow hair clips. They sell them in every color imaginable.

This one's just for fun, Miss Mel and I are suckers for guys in bow ties and suspenders, but really what girl isn't?

This mint bow ring is a must have, as in my birthday is coming up and I must have it!
*hint hint to any of my friends*

So what do you guys think? Are bows a do or don't? Let us know!

"The Carrie Diaries"

Have you been watching the new CW show The Carrie Diaries?

I will admit that I feel a little too old to be watching the show but since I loved Sex and the City I decided to give a try and it's actually a pretty entertaining show.  For those who don't know what The Carries Diaries is about, it's supposed to be a prequel to Sex and the City focused on Carrie Bradshaw as a junior in high school.

It stars AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bridge to Terabithia) as a convincing younger Carrie Bradshaw and relative newcomer Austin Butler (Switched at Birth, Life Unexpected) as hottie/badboy Sebastian Kydd.

It's the beginning of Carrie Bradshaw's love affair with New York, fashion and guys.

If you're interested in watching The Carrie Diaries, you've only missed three episodes which are streaming online for free!

The Carrie Diaries is on every Monday night at 8/7c on The CW Network.

DIY: Ribbon Photo Backdrop

So as most of you guys know Miss Mel and I are obsessed with most everything concerning glitter. When thinking of fun decorations for our New Years Eve party we made this awesome glitter ribbon photo backdrop. It was super simple and here's how we did it!

Supplies:
12 Glitter Ribbon spools (here is what we used)
2-3 Yard stick or skinny cylinder
Drill
2-3 yards thick string
Scissors

Step One:
Drill holes on both ends of the stick or cylinder that you using. Tie your string to each end through the holes you just made.

Step Two:
Unravel or unroll all your ribbon spools cutting roughly at every 8 foot interval.

So maybe I had to make myself a little tutu out of all the ribbon...

Step Three:
Tie one end of your ribbon strips to the stick or cylinder. Make sure to squish the knots together so you can't see the stick.

Step Four:
Hang up your backdrop on any wall. Here's our finished product!

We took some really funny pictures from behind the backdrop at the party.

But it was also a great background to the party pictures!

It was super simple to make and now it's hanging up in my apartment for any impromptu  photo sessions! Everyone got a great kick out of taking pictures with it! It'd be great for any type of party. Valentine's day is right around the corner, a pink, red and white one would be adorable!

Just for fun...

It's a hazy Thursday and just for fun I thought I would share this video of Tom Odell covering "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift on BBCRadio1. I found it last night on Twitter when Taylor herself tweeted how much she loved it!

Naturally, I had to check it out and Odell has put his own twist on the song. I think it could make non-Taylor fans (who are you really?) stop and listen!

Enjoy!

Do or Don't: Skulls

I've noticed recently that skulls have been everywhere lately. No longer reserved for the punk-rock and hardcore girls, skull decals are on bracelets, flirty dresses and even flats.

Personally, it isn't really my style but I have embraced the trend by wearing this bracelet and this scarf because sometimes you do just want to feel like a badass, even if it is just a little bit.
Would you embrace this trend?

I would love to own these "Jeffrey Campbell Skulltini" flats.

This "Tiny Skull" ring would an easy way to wear this trend!

By the way, Jeffrey Campbell, the mastermind behind the silk skull printed scarves, has a post on how to wear the skull trend!

Readers, what do you think? Is the skull trend a do or a don't?

Wishing for Warmer Days

I don't know if anyone else agrees with me on this stance but I'm so over this whole freezing weather thing. Don't get me wrong winter clothes are possibly my most favorite but I'm so ready to shed these layers. When I'm bundling up to go outside I like to imagine I'm throwing on a sundress ready to head to the pool. That got me thinking now is the perfect time to do all my swimsuit shopping!

Here are some of my favorites for this season!

Miss Mel and I are suckers for a cute monokini.

There so many reasons why I love this one. One is that it's fringe! Two, I love bandeau tops (they give the best tan lines). Lastly, I like the idea that you can switch out the bottom or top and it would still look awesome.

This swimsuit is crazy and you would have the craziest tan lines but I still love it!

If only these kinds of swimsuits still existed! I would don any of these at the beach!

So can summer be here already? Or even just Spring Break? Either would be fine with me, I'm not picky!

"Downton Abbey"

So I know I'm little late jumping on the "Downton Abbey bandwagon". Until now, I always thought it was Downtown Abbey...however, I've recently become addicted to the show! I'm almost finished with the first season on Netflix and I started last week! Did I mention that I'm obsessed?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with "Downton Abbey" (it's not to late to start watching, look at me!), it's a drama on PBS as one of their Masterpiece Classic shows. The show is set during the 1900's in a fictional town in England revolving around one aristocratic family and their servants.  "Downton" is filled with your typical drama schemes as well as, historical events like the sinking of the Titanic, the beginning of WWI and the Spanish influenza. As if that isn't enough to make you hooked, the clothes the characters wear are simply magnificent. It's truly incredible to see the Grantham family dress in black suits, bow-ties, hair pieces, hats, jewelry and ballroom gowns for a family dinner. A family dinner! You can only imagine what they wear to formal events!
Get some Edwardian fashion inspiration from the ladies of Downton Abbey.
The ladies of "Downton". I love their hats!

My absolute favorite outfit of the first season.
The day Sybil, the youngest of the Grantham daughters, wears pants. It was quite a spectacle!

Plus, Maggie Smith is on the show!

You can catch the third season of "Downton Abbey" on PBS on Sunday nights.

Half Marathon Training

So for the last few weeks I've been toying with the idea of doing a half marathon. I've done a few 5K runs but that's just not enough for me. So yesterday I finally registered for my very first half marathon in April. After I registered it hit me, I have twelve weeks to get it together! Not that I have just been sitting on my butt for the past few weeks but training needs to become more serious now.

I spent the last few days looking running schedules and tips and I'm going to share some with you guys now!

I've heard a ton of great things about this program called Couch-to-5K for beginners who don't know how to get started in the running game. They also have other plans for bigger races like 10Ks and Marathons.

Another great plan, lasting only 10 weeks, was from Women's Health Magazine. they do a great job of integrating cross-training and interval-training!

One of my favorite websites to refer people to is fitsugar. They have everything a person needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle and I love it!

With all my careful research I've made my own tentative schedule for the next 12 weeks. Hopefully everything goes according to plan. Wish me luck! Is anybody else training for a race or fun run?

Golden Globes 2013

Did you watch the Golden Globes on Sunday night?
This year's award ceremony was one of the best ones in years! I think Tina Fey and Amy Poehler should host the show forever. seriously. forever.
So, of course, we had to do a "best dressed" post!
My absolute favorite of the night was Anne Hathaway in Chanel.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture.
I was torn about this dress all throughout the show due to the, er, breast/Madonna top, but in the end I decided she looked stunning and I'm happy she won for "Silver Linings Playbook"!

Taylor Swift in Donna Karen Atelier.
TayTay, you killed it.

Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy.
I just love all the lace and her hair! Beautiful!

Kerry Washington in Miu Miu.
She IS the ultimate cool girl.

Emily Blunt in Michael Khors.
This is so, so, so cool!
I love the '60s-'70s vibe and the cut-outs!

Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta.
I love the bold color choice and that necklace!

What were your favorites of the night?

Back to School...

Ugh, today we go back to school!
It's a bittersweet feeling to say the least. We enjoyed every second of break but it has been about a month and we think it's time to get back in the groove of things.
Wish us luck!

Hehe!

Home Decor

At my house, we are in the process of redesigning our dining room. The project came on quite suddenly after we inherited some furniture from my grandparents. Next thing I know, my aunt who designs landscapes and does some interior decorating, is sending us inspiration boards and there are post-its covering every inch of space. We're centering the room around one particular piece, an amazing orange lamp that screams 1980's. We're changing the shade, painting one wall a deep blue to create a sort of "gallery wall", adding a splash of animal print and painting our foyer orange inspired by the movie "The Parent Trap".  It's a lot, I know, but I know it's going to look phenomenal and I'm excited to take on this new project with my mom!

I found some amazing inspiration photos on Pinterest and I wanted to share them with you.

I'd love to hear your tips!

Do or Don't: Mint

mint
Ever since this summer, I've been falling in love with the color mint. I have a mint top, mint pants, a mint dress and I'm currently searching for a mint bag.
I think the color is so refreshing and looks good with almost any skin tone.
What do you think? Is mint a do or don't?
