"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"

So, yes, it's another Taylor Swift post...BUT I wanted to share with you her new music video for her most recent single, "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together".

It premiered last night on CMT and MTV and I can't lie that I've already watched it like, 3 times...I can't help it! There are woodland creatures and everything!

DIY: Wine Cork Magnets

So lately I've been on this big covering every inch of my fridge up with pictures kick. This means my limited supply of magnets needed to expand. I also have a ton of wine bottle corks saved up for different crafting ideas. Do you see where I'm going with this? Wine cork magnets!

Supplies:
Wine bottle corks
Magnet strips
Glue
Knife

Step One:
Take your corks and cut them in half lengthwise.

Step Two:
Put glue on the magnet strips ad press them firmly onto the flat side of you cork half.

Step Three:
Wait until they've completely dried and then use them on any magnetic surface. Then you're done!

Now I need to take more pictures to block out any free space on my fridge!

DIY: Personalized Dish

As part of a graduation gift for our friend, Bosch, Ellen and I made her a personalized dish to hold jewelry, put on display or even eat off of! It was super easy to create and here's how to make your own!

Supplies:
Dish of your choosing
Scrapbook Paper
Initials or Design
ModPodge
Acrylic Sealer or any water-proofing spray
Paintbrush
Scissors or Exacto-Knife

Step One:
Cut your scrapbook paper to the dimensions of your dish.
Since we used a square dish we decided to only cover the inner-square with the scrapbook paper.

Step Two:

Paint a thin layer of ModPodge onto the dish and place your cut scrapbook paper on top. Use your fingers to smooth out any air bubbles that might occur.

Step Three (optional!):
Take your design or initials and use a thin layer of ModPodge to secure it to the dish.
We decided to use Boschs' initials but feel free to add your own design or just have the decorative scrapbook paper stand by itself!

Step Four:
Paint a thin layer of ModPodge over the entirety of your scrapbook paper.

Step Five:

Wait until the ModPodge has completely dried and then spray a couple coats of acrylic sealer over the entire dish. This will make sure your design stays put and waterproofs it all!

Have fun crafting!

p.s. I apologize for the quality of these photos...they were taken in the dark, dark basement at Ellen's house in her crafting corner with my phone...hopefully, you can still see our beautiful creation!

Toga Times!

This  past weekend, Miss Heather and Raven went to a toga party and it was basically the best thing ever. I mean but seriously I have decided that togas are awesome and wish every party I went to was a toga party. We saw some really creative designs out of nothing more than a bed sheet!

Miss Heather and Raven!

I think our favorite part of the whole costume were the accessories! Raven supplied us with some kick ass broaches and Miss Heather conveniently had temporary tattoos!

In all reality Miss Mel and Miss Heather are just suckers for a themed party. Have we mentioned that were already brainstorming for the best Halloween costume? If you want to be the best, you've got to plan ahead, right?

Hey There Weekend!

Weekend time!
Do you have any fun plans?
I'm hitting the road with Tom for my last weekend before my first week of school starts while Miss Heather heads to a toga party with Raven and relaxes before her second week of school!
School...ugh.
coffee #love
I think Miss Heather and I can attest to this being very, very true.

Miss Mel and Miss Heather have their very own Pinterest account featuring all of our DIY's, our style icons, do's and don't and much more! Check it out!

I LOVE these "outfit ideas" that Lauren Conrad features on her website.

Just bought this cute ring from Nordstrom.
I think all of the designs are super sweet and simple.

Have you seen this video?
Miss Heather and her roommate, Raven, shared it with me and I seriously can not stop laughing or watching it. It's hysterical!

Enjoy your last few weeks of summer!

Style Icon: Taylor Swift

Now, you all know that we have some serious love for TayTay so I was shocked to discover that we have yet to do a style icon post on her! I had to solve this problem immediately and therefore, our newest addition to the style icon family is Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift has won six Grammys, ten American Music Awards, seven Country Music Association Awards, six Academy of Country Music award,  is currently working on her fourth studio album "Red" out October 22, 2012 *eeee! I'm so excited!* and manages to always look great.
How does she do it? Can we be best friends please?

Below are some of my favorite looks:

The cover art for her new single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".
I seriously love everything about this outfit. The wayfarers, red lips, peter pan collar shirt tucked into black shorts and lace-up shoes.

Dressing up fancy using vintage frocks with friends for no real reason. Well, to throw their own party for Shirley Maclaine hah!
Miss Heather, cough cough, we need to do this. right.now.

Taylor Swift Beauty
Ah! I want her hair! Plus, I love her trademark red lips.
Sporting a vintage dress, wayfarers and a hair scarf.
And! She's with BFF, Selena Gomez, a fellow Style Icon here on Miss Mel and Miss Heather.

Looking like a '60s dream in the January issue of "Vogue".

And this might be my favorite look of all, her gold, sparkly dress she wore on tour.
I want to wear this dress to a party so badly!
TayTay, will you loan it to me? Pretty, pretty please!

What do you think? Do you love Taylor Swift's style as much as Miss Heather and I do?

DIY: Spray Paint Canvas

So lately I have decided the white wall of my apartment are boring, shock I know. But since this is an apartment and painting the walls isn't really an option I moved onto the next best thing, wall art! What's even better than wall art? Homemade wall art!

Supplies:
Blank canvas
Stencil
Spray Paint
Tape

Step One:
Cut out your stencil. I wanted to use lyrics from a song so I cut up letters.

Step Two:
Spray the entire canvas the color you want your letters or stencil to be.
Step Three:
Place or tape stencil on canvas.

Step Four:
Spray the entire canvas with an even coat.

Step Five:
Wait for canvas to dry and peel off stencil.

Now you have your very own handmade wall art to enjoy!

Summer's Almost Over!

Hey friends! So this weekend is sort of sad because this weekend marks the end of summer for Miss Heather. School picks back up on Monday and it is just not very much appreciated, like at all. Luckily Miss Mel has one more week, soak up your freedom while you still have it!

Picture Quote of the week!

So this week Taylor Swift, one of our faves, released a new single called "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and we've probably listened to a million times already!

This is too funny!

For all you students or teachers out there needing to refresh the wardrobe, did you know that J.Crew gives a student/teacher discount? Hell yes.

We hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!

Happy Birthday Ellen!

Miss Heather and I wanted to wish our good friend Ellen a
Happy Twenty-Second Birthday!
Or as she likes to put it, "the first anniversary of my twenty-first birthday". Hah!

I've known Ellen for about eight years now since we went to high school together and even to the same college for a while! I'm glad to say that I can call her my friend and I always have a blast whenever we are together.

Can't wait to celebrate with you!

Style Icon: Victoria Beckham

Since Miss Mel and I have been obsessed with The Spice Girls since we were wee babies we thought it only fitting to give a shout out to our most stylish Spice Girl, Posh Spice! I mean I guess she really goes by Victoria Beckham now but she'll always be known as Posh to any little girl from the nineties.

Oh yeah another reason we love her is because she's married to this beautiful man, David Beckham. Their nickname is Posh and Becks. Basically they're an extremely attractive couple and put others to shame.

Here's them at the Royal Wedding!

Spice Girls reunited

Basically, we are praying for another Spice Girls reunion tour!

DIY: Earring Holder

In fashion boutiques and all over Pinterest, I've been seeing these mesh-wire earring/jewerly holders, so I decided to create my own! I'm pretty proud with how it turned out!
Here's how to make your own.

Supplies:
Any size Picture Frame (plain or decorated)
*I got mine at Hobby Lobby*
1/4 inch Mesh-Wire
*to be purchased at any hardware store*
Wire Cutters
ModPodge
Plain Scrapbook Paper
Paintbrush

Step One:

Remove the glass and backboard of the picture frame.

Step Two:

Cut the mesh-wire to the size of your frame using the wire cutters (scissors will also work if you are using the 1/4 inch mesh-wire, which I highly recommend since earrings are small!)

Step Three:
Grab the backboard of the frame and your selected color of scrapbook paper to attach it to the backboard using a thin layer of ModPodge.

I chose brown scrapbook paper since my frame was extremely patterned. However, I think it would be cute to pick a patterned scrapbook paper if you had a plain frame to create some contrast!

Step Four:
Use your dry backboard and attach it back to the frame. The backboard will keep the mesh-wire in place.

And you're done!

What do you think? I would love to create a large scale one for my closet someday!

The Spice Girls Are Back!

I really, really hope that everyone was able to watch the Olympic Closing Ceremony on Sunday night!
Not only was it bittersweet, exciting and entertaining, the Spice Girls performed!
Ah! The eight year old in me couldn't have been more excited!
*I was seriously jumping up and down....*

Even after all these years, Posh, Baby, Ginger, Sporty and Scary Spice have still got it!

Here is the video so you can watch it for the first time or again and again and again!

How to Survive Traveling!

Miss Mel and I are no stranger to traveling. We're also no stranger to the boredom that can come from traveling if you're not careful. That's why we decided to help you guys out with ideas on how to make the time go by quickly!

1. Family Jams: This is a term our friend, Raven, gave to the time when everyone in the car is singing along to music. Our friends love to be extremely obnoxious when it comes to singing in the car but that makes the trip all the more fun! *Our favorite jam to play is Taylor Swift, works every time!*

2. Reading a Book: A book, or audiobook, is a great way to pass the time. It's usually a single person activity unless you're reading aloud to everyone *don't do this without everyone from the car's permission or you might be left at the next break stop*.

3. Craft Time: I don't know why but whenever I'm going on a trip I always want to make friendship bracelets. This probably stems from when Miss Mel and I were tiny babies and would proceed to make a million bracelets in the car on the way to the lake.

4. Watch a Movie: So this one really isn't for the driver unless you want to get into a horrific car accident because Ryan Gosling took his shirt off and the driver got distracted. Besides that there are plenty of ways to watch a movie like putting them onto your iPod or iPad or even getting a portable DVD player *they're pretty cheap!*

5. Car Games: Use your surroundings to make a game! There's always I spy, 20 Questions or the License Plate Game. Our friend, Ellen, made us privy to the cow game. The rules are you spot a cow then you're the princess, the winner is the last person to see a cow gets to be the princess until your next trip! *have we mentioned car trips tend to make people delusional?*

6. Snacks and Caffeinated Beverages: These might be the most important things to have on your trip! Miss Mel and I have become hangry, hungry and angry, on occasion and no one is safe when this happens! Also drinks are necessary when you're getting tired behind the wheel and still have hours to go!

Hopefully your next trip will be more enjoyable and less dreadful with these tips in mind!

A song for your weekend.
