Style Icon: Gwen Stefani

There are few people that can pull off a fair complexion and bright red lips. Well Gwen Stefani not only pulls it off but has made it her trademark.
Her signifiers include ivory skin colour, platinum blonde hair, bold red lips and a rather thin physique. She first showed us she didn't care what anyone thought about her when she showed up as the angry singer in a little Ska band, No Doubt. Wearing ties on top of a mesh bikini top with neon short shorts and some Doc Martens and letting everybody know that she's the sh*t. She dropped the grunge look when she went solo and adopted a more luxurious lifetsyle. She started her L.A.M.B line in 2003 and I found a new reason to fall in love with Gwen, not that I needed any help.
Here's just a little preview of her new Spring 2012 collection!
Just another picture of the ever classy Gwen rocking a bold hairstyle.
Gwen's an inspiration to us all and I know I speak for myself as well as Miss Mel when I say we can't wait to see what she'll come out with next!

DIY: How To Make Your Own Modpodge Name Sign!

Over the weekend I decided to be a little crafty and made a "name sign" for my room.
Therefore, here are instructions on how to recreate my DIY project!

How To Make Your Own Modpodge Name Sign!
Supplies:
Three (or more) 8 x 10 white canvas boards
Three (or more) wooden letters that spell your initials, name, whatever you want
Six sheets of any design scrapbook paper
A bottle of Modpodge, either the gloss or matte kind *I used gloss*
Paintbrush
Ruler
Pencil
All the supplies you will need.

1)Take your white canvas boards and use the paintbrush to cover them with a thin layer of Modpodge.

2)Grab your background color scrapbook paper and use the paintbrush to cover it with a thin layer of Modpodge.
Covering the canvas with the scrapbook paper.
 3) Place the Modpodge'd scrapbook paper atop of the Modpodge'd canvas and wrap it around to the back creating a smooth foundation of color.

4)Use your paintbrush to coat your canvas (now covered with the scrapbook paper) with a thin layer of ModPodge.

This is what your canvas should look like after the top layer of ModPodge.

5)Take your second color scrapbook paper and began to cover your wooden letters. This is time consuming because you have to cut and fit the paper to the letters, but don't give up!
*If you are covering wooden letters, the paper will not fit perfectly. You will have to cut many small pieces and ModPodge them in all the nooks and crannies. Don't fret tho! When you are finished no one will be able to tell!*

6)Once each letter has been sufficiently covered with the scrapbook paper, take your paintbrush and paint a thin layer of ModPodge over each letter.
This is what your canvases and letters should look like after they have both been covered with their top layer of ModPodge.
7)After the canvases and letters are dried completely take your ruler to measure out how to place the letters evenly.

8)Use your paintbrush to ModPodge the back of your letters and place them on the canvas where you made your measurements.

My finished canvases.

9)Wait at least 2-3 hours for them to dry completely

10)Place your ModPodge name sign anywhere you desire!

Have fun crafting!

Shhh..I have a secret.

I'm OBSESSED with The Container Store! I can't help it! Every time I go in there I instantly want to organize my entire life. Easier said than done. Right?

The desk is just one example of the stuff they can create. Sigh.
from thecontainerstore.com
If you are unfamiliar with The Container Store, well, let me enlighten you! It's an entire store dedicated to organizing and "containing". They have every gadget possible, plastic containers, hangers, kitchen ware, jars, you name it, they probably have it.

One favorite feature of mine is the closet organizing tools they provide. On their website you are able to design your own virtual closet, complete with shelves, hangers and other storage tools. Then you are given the option of purchasing all of the listed items and installing it yourself OR they will have someone come out to your house and do it for you all with the click of a few buttons. How amazing is that?

Just for fun here are a few of my favorite items;

I would love to have this desk/bookshelf in my room.

I use these for make-up storage.

These hangers seriously double your closet space. I would be lost without them!

I have this moveable closet in my basement storing clothes I only wear on special occasions. It opens up even more closet space!

This keeps necklaces from getting tangled. Genius!

I have these bins in my rooms. Perfect for storage and they look nice!

Decorative jars for a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, wherever!

I know I'm a dork but I can't help it, I love The Container Store!

P.S. For all you St. Louisan's out there, the only Container Store is located in Brentwood Square.

Movies I'm Dying to See: Part 2

Since a WHOLE BUNCH of new movie trailers were just recently released I thought I would do a second movie post (I'm sure there will be many more to come) on a few films coming soon to theaters.
The first two movies I will be listing are coming to theaters fairly soon, in March as a matter as fact, and the rest of the films are guaranteed to be summer blockbusters. Get excited!

  Dr. Seuss' The Lorax.

Based on the beloved children's book about a creature, the Lorax, and his mission to save the Truffula Trees from the greedy Once-ler, this new animated film version puts a slightly different spin on the classic story. Revolving around a twelve-year-old boy trying to impress the girl of his dreams who discovers the Lorax and helps him with his cause of saving the Truffula Trees from destruction. The Lorax is starring the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White, Ed Helms and Danny DeVito to name a few and will be in theaters March 2, 2012.

Mirror, Mirror
I'm especially excited about this one! Mirror, Mirror is a new spin of the classic tale of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" starring Lily Collins, Julia Roberts (playing an hilarious version of the Evil Queen), Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane. It's coming to theaters March 16, 2012 and I can't wait!

The Avengers

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo; this star-packed action film is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team. This film will have our favorite superhero stars from past summer blockbuster films like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America. The Avengers is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 4, 2012.

What to Expect When You're Expecting

What looks to be a hilarious comedy starring Elizabeth Banks, Dennis Quaid, Matthew Morrison, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Anna Kendrick, Chance Crawford and Chris Rock. What to Expect When You're Expecting is based on the best-selling pregnancy book about well, all the things to expect when you're expecting. The film is scheduled to be in theaters on May 11,2012.

Moonrise Kingdom

Get ready for another Wes Anderson film! Moonrise Kingdom stars Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis,Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton and Harvey Keitel in a movie about a tale of young lovers in the 1960's who runway together. Moonrise Kingdom will be in theaters on May 25, 2012.

Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages is the movie version of a Broadway Musical featuring songs from the '80s such as Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and Poison. The film mainly revolves around two young lovers in the music industry and their struggles finding fame. Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough. It's scheduled to be in theaters on June 1, 2012.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow White and the Huntsman is, yes, another movie about "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" but this version definitely has a more darker, action-packed feel to it and is unlike any Snow White story we have heard before. For instance, instead of the Huntsman killing Snow White, he teaches her the art of war and has her fight back against the Evil Queen. Starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chis Hemsworth the film is scheduled to be in theaters on June 1, 2012 (good day for movies!).

I hope you're as excited for these upcoming films as I am! Let's go to the movies! Anyone? Anyone?
