Style Icon: Tavi Gevinson

Tavi Gevinson is probably the coolest sixteen year-old ever.
 Tavi Gevinson. Cute out fit.
At eleven, Tavi started blogging about fashion and has described herself as a "tiny 11 year old dork that sits inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats".  Since then, she has received international attention from the fashion community and has worked with everyone from Miuccia Prada to Karl Lagerfeld to John Galliano to Lady Gaga.
In addition to "The Style Rookie", she also has her own magazine, "Rookie".
Like I said, coolest sixteen year-old ever.

Below of some my favorite looks that Tavi has worn.
“[...] personal style is an opportunity to kind of create your own fantasy. And that can be—and this word is so overused—but empowering in a way, especially when you feel like you have to have a certain force field around you to the outside world.”-Tavi Geninson

Tavi Gevinson's blunt bangs and blonde hair gives her a unique retro look.

Tavi Gevinson
I think only Tavi could pull off wearing a leopard headscarf, gold blouse, stripped pants with leather pockets and gold, strappy wedges. I love every inch of it.

OH MON DIEU: Tavi Gevinson's Evolution
That hair. That makeup. That top.

Love the knee-high socks and purse sewn into her red skirt.
Adorable.

Pink flower headband, need I say more?

I could put about a thousand pictures up here because I love her so.

Style Icon: The Women of "Mad Men"

This past week, I started watching the beloved show Mad Men and I finally understand what all the hype is about. Not only is the show intriguing, it opens your eyes to a time period that we are obsessed with, the beginning of the 1960s. Everyone's smoking, drinking at noon and dressed to the nine's at all times. Truthfully, part of me wishes that everyone still dressed this way. It would definitely bring an certain air of drama to everyday life!

Below are some of my favorite looks the leading ladies of Mad Men have worn.
Starring; January Jones as Betty Draper, Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris, Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson and Alison Brie as Trudy Campbell.

"Betty and Don Draper"
The epitome of class, Betty Draper always looks gorgeous.

"Joan Harris"
I love that Joan flaunts her curves and has every man in that office wrapped around her little finger.

Peggy Olsen, my new hero.
"Peggy Olsen"
She is unspoken hero of this show and does it all in modest, collared shirts, flippy skirts and let's not forget those high ponytails and bangs.

"Trudy Campbell"
I want this dress! You can always count on Trudy to be matching her lipstick to her handbag.

Do you watch Mad Men? Who's style do you love the most?

Style Icon: Ashley Madekwe

It's been a while since we've done a Style Icon post and I'm excited to share our latest one!

For those who watch ABC's "Revenge", you are already familiar with Ashley Madekwe's killer style. Though she's playing a character on television, Ashley's sense of style translates throughout the show and into her street style. I would have to say that she is definitely the best-dressed person on that show and out of all the beautiful people and clothes, that's saying something!
She even has a top fashion blog called, "Ring My Bell", where she shares outfits and inspirations.
I know I'm a frequent reader!
Her style is essentially Top-Shop's look-book (a.k.a. my dream wardrobe) and she manages to stay on trend without over-doing it.

Below are some of my favorite outfits of Ashley's:

Leather + Chambray Shirt= Love
Great mixture of textures.

Kitty Cat Shirt, high-waisted shorts and clunky leopard heels.

Mustard skirt, enough said.

Love the sequined collar and shoulders!

Style Icon: Taylor Swift

Now, you all know that we have some serious love for TayTay so I was shocked to discover that we have yet to do a style icon post on her! I had to solve this problem immediately and therefore, our newest addition to the style icon family is Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift has won six Grammys, ten American Music Awards, seven Country Music Association Awards, six Academy of Country Music award,  is currently working on her fourth studio album "Red" out October 22, 2012 *eeee! I'm so excited!* and manages to always look great.
How does she do it? Can we be best friends please?

Below are some of my favorite looks:

The cover art for her new single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".
I seriously love everything about this outfit. The wayfarers, red lips, peter pan collar shirt tucked into black shorts and lace-up shoes.

Dressing up fancy using vintage frocks with friends for no real reason. Well, to throw their own party for Shirley Maclaine hah!
Miss Heather, cough cough, we need to do this. right.now.

Taylor Swift Beauty
Ah! I want her hair! Plus, I love her trademark red lips.
Sporting a vintage dress, wayfarers and a hair scarf.
And! She's with BFF, Selena Gomez, a fellow Style Icon here on Miss Mel and Miss Heather.

Looking like a '60s dream in the January issue of "Vogue".

And this might be my favorite look of all, her gold, sparkly dress she wore on tour.
I want to wear this dress to a party so badly!
TayTay, will you loan it to me? Pretty, pretty please!

What do you think? Do you love Taylor Swift's style as much as Miss Heather and I do?

Style Icon: Victoria Beckham

Since Miss Mel and I have been obsessed with The Spice Girls since we were wee babies we thought it only fitting to give a shout out to our most stylish Spice Girl, Posh Spice! I mean I guess she really goes by Victoria Beckham now but she'll always be known as Posh to any little girl from the nineties.

Oh yeah another reason we love her is because she's married to this beautiful man, David Beckham. Their nickname is Posh and Becks. Basically they're an extremely attractive couple and put others to shame.

Here's them at the Royal Wedding!

Spice Girls reunited

Basically, we are praying for another Spice Girls reunion tour!

Style Icon: Blake Lively

I was inspired to do this post after seeing our style icon's newest movie, "Savages" (which was pretty f*ucking cool but also pretty f*cked up just fyi...not for the faint of heart!).

Blake Lively is the epitome of California girl style equipped with long, flowing blonde hair, bronze beauty status and legs that go on for miles.
In "Savages" she sported random braids, breezy dresses and virtually no make-up but still looked amazing. Even as Serena on "Gossip Girl" she can pull off the look with a slightly edgier "New York" vibe a.k.a. knee-high boots and a vest here and there.

Miss Lively definitely achieves the slightly disheveled while still look chic award every time.

Below are some of my favorite looks:

I would kill for this dress and fish-tail braid!

Style Icon: Rachel Bilson

Miss Mel and I were totally in love with the T.V. show, "The O.C.", so this week I decided to talk about Rachel Bilson. She played the lovable Summer Roberts who had an ongoing love affair with Seth Cohen, played by Adam Brody. We basically loved Seth and Summer!

She collaborated with Steve Madden and Nicole Chavez to create the awesome shoe store "ShoeMint". Just look at those awesome shoes!

This is the infamous Seth and Summer kiss from "The O.C."
You would have had to watch the show but it's so cute!

She's  even tried her hand at being a stylist, many people call her a "fashion junkie" and I totally believe it!

We just love her! Who do you guys just love? Let us know!

Style Icon: Lauren Conrad

Some know her as a reality television star on shows like, "Laguna Beach" and "The Hills", while others might know her as the brain behind, "The Beauty Department" website and videos, while others might her know her as the New York Times bestselling author of "L.A. Candy" and three other novels as well as, a personal style book that I love, while others might know her for her kickass website or clothing line. Yep, I'm talking about Lauren Conrad, or L.C.
*as she is known by her super BFF's...like me...*
Lauren as featured in "Glamour" magazine.

Out of all of her titles, I think what she is most know for is her personal style.
I basically am obsessed with Lauren and I know our good friend, Ellen, is too. Just the other day I told her how very "Lauren Conrad" her ensemble looked and it was like I had just told her that she won the lottery.

My explanation of Lauren's style is she has the classic All-American girl look with a dash of bohemian thrown in there.
a.k.a. what I want my style to be

Below are some my favorite of Lauren's looks:

Photo spread from her book "Style".
At the VMA's in 2008 in a killer white dress.
Love the outfit and her hair. ugh, it looks so cool!
Even getting ready she looks awesome!
Love the maxi skirt and her combo of neutrals!
This is too adorable! I want this outfit!
What do you think? Do you love L.C's style as much as I do? Do you secretly wish "The Hills" was still on? There's always Netflix!

I would HIGHLY recommend checking both of them out. They both have great DIY tutorials and Lauren's website even has etiquette and style tips!

Style Icon: Joey Potter

So....I'm slightly embarrassed to admit this but I've recently starting watching Dawson's Creek on Netflix. I was too young to watch it from the beginning when it was on television (the first season aired in 1998...I was 8!) so I decided to see what all the hype was about. Welp, the charm of Dawson and his BFF Joey worked their magic and I am hooked!
One of the things I really love about the show is Joey Potter's sense of style. Joey is played by Katie Holmes and is Dawson's girl best friend who is obviously in love with him but *of course* Dawson is totally oblivious. It's just so perfectly '90s, the overalls, high-waisted jean shorts, large flannel shirts left open with a crop top underneath, I just love it.
So, quote-un-quote, since the '90s are coming back in style, I thought I would share some of my favorite looks Joey wears on the show.

Any other Dawson's Creek fans out there? Do you feel the same way? Haha!

Style Icon: Selena Gomez

Yep, that's right I've chosen Selena Gomez as one of my style icons. I know she's a little younger than Miss Heather and I but we both love her style.
Selena also knows how to look killer on any red carpet.
Seriously, it's kind of unbelievable.

Below are some of my favorite looks of Selena's.

The hair, the makeup, love it!

At the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011
*I die for this dress. She definitely took some risks wearing it but I think she pulled it off flawlessly!*

It's a white dress! What can I say?
