I am a HUGE fan of red lips. In a post I did back in January, I talked about my three favorite products to achieve the perfect red lip and since fall is approaching, it's perfect time to try it out! I don't know why but I feel like fall and winter are the "red lip" season. Am I crazy? Even though I am a big supporter of the red lip, I know a lot of people who aren't. Stating that it's "too bold", "too much", "makes it hard to eat or drink" or even, "it makes it hard to kiss someone!". Now, all of the above can be true if you wear the wrong shade of red for your skin tone or if you use a "too glossy" red or a lipstick that comes off in three seconds. However, I firmly believe that anyone can pull off red lips if they give it a shot! I think it instantly brightens up your face and not to mention, your teeth! When I wear red lipstick it looks like I just got my teeth whitened! Another perk is that with red lips, you basically don't have to put on any more makeup! I just curl my eyelashes, dash on some CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara and I'm good to go!
So, readers, what do you think? Are red lips a do or a don't?
Here are two photos of me wearing red lips! I can't help it! I just love the look!
Doesn't she look stunning!
I love the red lips with the lace white top and sleek black jeans.
stripes + red lipstick=effortlessly cool
If you're interested, this is my absolutely favorite red lipstick and it's not really even a lipstick at all! It stays on for hours without drying up your lips or coming off on anything or anyone ;)
*A word of advice, apply chapstick before you put on any lipstick/color/gloss. It will moisturize your lips without changing the color or being too sticky! Toss it and your lip color in your bag and you're good to go!* Try it out!
Lately I've been on this 30 Rock kick. It all started a couple weeks ago when Raven and I were perusing my Netflix account for something funny to watch. Now it's becoming an obsession, all my homework and study breaks are dedicated to this awesomely hilarious T.V. show. I wish I could be besties with Liz Lemon and Kenneth Parcell!
For those of you who have never seen it, get Netflix right now and watch all the seasons. Immediately! No joke you'll thank me for it. Okay so the show centers around Liz Lemon, Tina Fey, who is the head writer of a sketch comedy show,TGS with Tracy Jordan. Liz Lemon has to deal with her arrogant boss, Alec Baldwin, always meddling in her show's affairs or the "stars" of her show, Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski, or her incredibly lazy staff of writers. But the shenanigans, yeah I said shenanigans, these people get into are hilarious! The show got its name because the address of the GE building where the comedy show is filmed is 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.
Tina Fey created this show in 2006 with the seventh season premiering this fall. I mean honestly it's definitely one of my favorite shows and I could quote it for days. If you're even the tiniest bit of a Tina Fey fan then I can safely say you will fall in love with this show. Next thing you know you'll be saying "blerg!" instead of screaming profanities.*I know I sometimes do*
Yesterday I was definitely feeling the "Monday Blues". On Mondays, I am on campus from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon I hit a wall. My brain turns off and I just don't want to be at school anymore. This must be because for 12 grades school ended at 3:00 but noooo, college is above that and boom. Next thing ya know, you're in class until 8:00 P.M. That means it's dark outside, people, dark.
Anyways, enough of my rant. I thought I would share with you what helps me get through my unbelievable long Mondays. Sometimes, it's a phone call to Tom or Miss Mel, a good song I get stuck in my head or just plain ol' laughing.
Yesterday, it was laughing to the hysterical Natasha Leggero.
Tom shared her stand-up act with Miss Heather and I on an infamous 14-hour road trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina a couple of summer ago and she definitely gave us a couple of new catch phrases.
Natasha Leggero is an actress and a stand-up comedian that has frequented Chelsea Handler's round table on "Chelsea Lately" and has her own comedy album titled "Natasha: Coke Money".
Here a complied clip of every time Natasha has been on "Chelsea Lately". and
My ABSOLUTE favorite line from her album is: "It's hard breaking up with someone though you know; when you have to be the one who says it. Listen darling, you've run out of money."
I hope you enjoy her as much as Miss Heather and I do! Only 4 more days until the weekend!
Hey everyone! As Miss Mel said, I went to Arkansas this weekend to go camping with some friends and it was so much fun! Here's some pictures from the trip!
Miss Heather about to embark on our road trip!!
We made it to Arkansas!
Raven sitting next to the fire we built!
Miss Heather and Raven in Ravenden in front of a GIANT Raven we found! *obviously we had to take a picture with it*
Well that was my weekend in a nutshell! Hope you guys had just as much fun as I did and an even greater week! Happy Monday!
What are your plans for this weekend? Miss Heather, Raven, Tim and a bunch of other friends are all in Arkansas camping this weekend while I'm hanging around in town to celebrate my little brother's 19th birthday!
Picture quote of the week sums up what priorities are...haha
Tom has gotten us all addicted to this crazy song.
I think I want a pair of Hunter Wellies. I'm leaning towards the classic yellow.
This cracked me up. Come on, you've thought this at least before!
If you're from Missouri, you should come to Soulard's Oktoberfest on October 12-14! It's one of my new favorite fall activities!
Early last winter I made some fun name banners to hang up in my room and this time I've come back to show you a fun new idea on the name banners! I wanted to make a little something to make my new roommate, Raven, feel more at home and hopefully this did the trick!
Supplies:
Cloth
Yarn
Construction paper
Scissors (you may also need an exacto knife)
Needle and thread (or a sewing machine)
Step One:
Cut out the letters you will need for the name.
Step Two:
Trace and cut out triangles big than the letters you cut out in step one.
Step Three:
Fold the top part of the triangles over and pin your letters to them.
Step Four:
Sew along the fold making sure to get the letter as well. Also cut off those excess flaps from you folded over the top of the triangle.
Step Five:
All that is left is to string the yarn through the tunnels you made when you folded the triangles. Then hang up your banner wherever you want!
I hung up my banners in the living room above the T.V. and I think they look so cute! What do you guys think?
So another fashion trend showing up more and more is the high low trend. Whether it's a skirt, shirt or even a blouse the concept is still the same, high hem in the front and low hem in the back.
I can safely speak for Miss Mel when I say she definitely thinks they are a do. I mean look at that awesome dress she's wearing!
Our friend, Ellen, and Miss Mel!
So what do you guys think? Is the high low trend a do or don't?
I would have say they're definitely a do! I think the shape looks good on any body style and let's face it "one size fits all" rarely applies to clothes. If you haven't check out any out you should!
Another Fall '12 trend Miss Heather and I want to share is the color burgundy. Think velvet red, dark cherry and vintage wine. This is the color blowing up this fall season and you're bound to see it from dresses, shoes, jackets, lipstick and even nail polish.
Below are some of our favorite looks from this new trend. Enjoy and let us know what you think!
If you are truly brave, you could try burgundy lips! I think that even though it's dark and drastic, it looks bold and beautiful!
I seriously die for this Carven dress. So pretty!
Is the new burgundy trend a do or a don't? I'm kinda thinking it's a do! It's a warm rich color that flatters most everyone. I'm leaning towards some burgundy heels...perfect for holiday parties!
As I'm sure many of you guys are, Miss Heather and I are completely obsessed with Pinterest. This has lead me to accumulate hundreds of photos and today, I figured why not share a couple.
It's the weekend! Do you have any fun plans? I know Miss Heather and I are just excited that it's here!
*our picture quote of the week is so sweet*
I heard this cover by Miley Cyrus this week and I can't get it out of my head. Say what you want about her but when she sings like this, it reminds us all that hey, she actually is pretty talented. By the way, "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You're Gone" is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs.
For those of you have seen the movie "Blue Valentine" with Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams you know it's not exactly a romantic movie as much as it is a depressing movie but, I still think this scene is so endearing. "I have to sing stupid."
I just got this from Bare Minerals and I love it! It works so well!
I was browsing through my iTunes the other day and I realized I haven't complied a list of my favorite love songs. Now, this is a pretty broad category considering every other song is about some form of love and since I have 11,000+ songs on my iTunes *not kidding* I was going to be taking on quite a big project. So, I thought, why not do a blog post on it and get some ideas from fellow readers!
Below is my list *so far* of my favorite love songs.
"Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney
"Sleeping to Dream" by Jason Mraz
"The Girl" by City and Colour
"L-O-V-E (Love)" by Al Green
*by the way, this video is fantastic*
"Tiny Dancer" by Elton John
"Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"You Are The Best Thing" by Ray LaMontagne
Miss Heather and I would LOVE * hehe, get it?* to hear your feedback! Leave us a comment below!
I stumbled across this photo of Miss Heather and I when we were younger and I thought I would share.
I wanna say this is circa 1997 and don't you just love our matching cats?
This picture was taken at my grandparent's condo at the lake where we spent many, many summers. I can still remember bringing down our hamsters, braiding each others hair into a zillion braids, being professional tubers, building sand mounds and watching a movie (VHS!) on the drive down because it was SO FAR (okay, so it was only a two hour drive but to a seven year old that's a long time!)!
We still try and go back there every summer!
Side-Note: Look how blonde Miss Heather is! Haha! Ah, to be 7 again...
So last week I made wine cork magnets and this week I made Bottle-cap magnets! Seriously these have been so easy and I love the way they look on the fridge!
Supplies:
Bottle-caps
Magnets (the stronger the better!)
Hot glue gun
Step One:
Glue your magnets to your bottle-caps. My magnets were a little thin so to make sure the magnets would actually reach the fridge I folded up some paper to fill the gap up.
Step Two:
After the glue has sufficiently dried, throw the magnets on the fridge and enjoy!
I love how I get to personalize my magnets by choosing the bottle-caps myself! These are some of my favorite beers and now everyone who comes to my house will know! What kind of bottle-caps would you guys use?
One of the new Fall '12 fashion trends is leather. I'm talking, leather dresses, leather skirts, leather pants, jackets, gloves, you name it and they probably have it in leather.
Dress by Agnes Sokolowska by Massimo Pamparana for IO Donna
I've never really been a huge fan of leather myself until I found this faux (that's fancy *or French* for fake) leather jacket at Forever 21 two years ago *see photo*. It suddenly became my go-to going out jacket and I instantly felt 100x cooler. I don't know why but leather has that effect on people.
Miss Mel wearing my beloved Forever 21 "faux leather" jacket and my friend, Sarah, rocking leather jeggings. This picture was taken in 2009 so we were way ahead of the trend! Hah!
So I started thinking, would I attempt to wear a leather dress or would I just look like a wannabe biker chick?
Ashely Madekwe wearing a purple leather skirt and a bright yellow leather clutch.
Readers, Miss Heather and I want to know what you think of the trend. Have we given you inspiration to rock that leather dress or do feel like this is a trend that never should have surfaced? Let us know!
